Calligraphy tools The most traditional tool used to transfer the medium onto the support is a reed called calamus. It's cut left oblique for Arabic except Maghrebi, square for Hebrew scripts. There are also some modern metallic utensils and even "fountain-reeds".
Calligraphy mediums All kinds of inks can be used with reeds: pigmented, acryl, and so on
Calligraphy supports From papyrus to vellum then paper, supports of Arabic abd Hebrew writing have changed with times and countries. But we have them all. Our genuine papyrus is handmade on the Nile banks exactly as 5000 years ago. Handmade marbled paper is good for Ottoman and Persian styles, while skin is perfect for Semitic scripts, while coated ans hot pressed modern papers also fit.
